About Event

Folk singer-songwriter Lucy Kaplansky will be performing at Shady Grove Coffeehouse on October 4th.

Kaplansky began her career singing in Chicago folk clubs as a teenager before moving to New York City, where she became a popular harmonizing partner for artists like Shawn Colvin. The New York Times even said it was "easy to predict stardom for her."

She later took a break from the music world to earn a doctorate in clinical psychology and work in a hospital and private practice. However, she was often drawn back to the studio by friends like Colvin and Nanci Griffith, and she contributed her voice to projects including Colvin's Grammy-winning "Steady On."

Returning to music, Kaplansky released her debut album, "The Tide," in 1994 and has since released several acclaimed albums, winning the AFIM award for Best Pop Album for both Ten Year Night (1999) and Every Single Day (2001).
Lucy Kaplansky has also been a member of two folk supergroups: Cry Cry Cry (with Dar Williams and Richard Shindell) and Red Horse (with John Gorka and Eliza Gilkyson). She has appeared on shows like the CBS Morning Show and NPR's Weekend and Morning Editions, and her version of Roxy Music's "More than This" has over 12 million streams on Spotify. Her most recent album, The Lucy Story, released in January 2025, is a retrospective collection of unreleased tracks, demos, and live recordings spanning her musical career.
