Many Christians are aware that they cannot do the work of God without the power of God. Your forgetfulness of that truth – namely, that you cannot do the work of God without the power of God – is not a pastoral fear of mine. Rather, the fear is that believers might be tempted to want the power of God, but not want God himself. Even if you want the best things: people to be saved, churches to be planted, revival to come, and the power of God on your life – if you want those things, without desiring the very presence of God, the Bible would call that idolatry. Our love for God must supersede our love for the things of God. We will learn three truths from Acts 1:4-14: • You cannot do the work of God without the power of God • The power of God flows out of the presence of God • Only those who want the presence of God, more than presents from God, will wait on God
