About Group

At Christ Church, Frederica, acolytes—including crucifers and torch bearers—serve an important liturgical role during worship services. Their primary purpose is to assist in the orderly and reverent conduct of the liturgy, helping to create a sense of sacred space and enhance the worship experience.

  • Crucifers carry the processional cross and lead the procession into and out of the church, symbolizing Christ’s presence at the heart of the worshiping community. The crucifer also holds the Gospel book when the Gospel is read during the liturgy.

  • Torch bearers carry candles alongside the cross during processions, symbolizing the light of Christ and adding visual reverence to the service’s movement and flow.

Together, these roles support the beauty, structure, and sacred rhythm of Anglican worship, emphasizing the theological and symbolic significance of each part of the liturgy.
